Gone Glampin'
I’d like to start this by saying that I lost more UNO games during this trip than I’ve lost in my entire life and for that I am very disappointed in myself.
Anyways, here’s the scoop…
What: Glamping (glamorous + camping = glamping)
Where: Lynchburg, Virginia - No, “Lynchburg” isn’t the most comforting city name as far as Black people are concerned. I actually avoided telling people (aside from my family) exactly where I was going because I really didn’t want to answer questions around 1. Why Black people were going glamping and 2. Why Black people were going glamping in a town named ”Lynchburg.”
When: October 16 and 17, 2019
Why: Well, a few reasons: 1. Glamping is something I always wanted to do, 2. Fall foliage, 3. Quality time, 4. The glamping site was most affordable and convenient for the rest of my plans that weekend, 5. QUIET
How: Well, I was already in Richmond, Virginia so we drove from Richmond to Lynchburg *insert cringe here*. The drive was about 2 hours.
Note: There are PLENTY of glamping sites across the world. Again, I went to this specific location because it was the most affordable and convenient for MY plans that weekend. Check out GlampingHub.com for some other glamping recommendations.
The details:
Wait, where did you stay again? We stayed at the Suburban Dome which can be found on Airbnb and on GlampingHub.com. The dome sleeps 4 people comfortably - two people on the bed and two people on a blow up mattress which is provided.
They got wifi? Why yes. There is Wifi, a television with Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime and more!
What else did they have? The hosts did a great job predicting needs. They had practically everything one would need - paper products, water, granola bars, coffee maker, table, chairs, silverware, mini fridge, microwave, iron/ironing board, a heater/air conditioning, lots of board games…all the things. They even gifted us with a bottle of wine when we arrived.
But what about a bathroom? Yes, there is a bathroom and a shower. I will say, this isn’t the most glamorous part of the experience but it got the job done.
What did you eat? Well, Lynchburg *insert cringe here* isn’t in the middle of nowhere. In fact, Liberty University makes up most of the town which means there are quite a few restaurants, bars and activities for the college students in the area so eating was never a concern of ours.
With all this said, we went to the local Walmart which was less than a mile away. It was actually walking distance but again…context. We picked up some items for grilling. Like, if we gonna be out here, let’s really be out here. We grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp and turkey burgers. No we did not have any vegetables and my mommy said that’s okay. We ate out at a local Pho spot for another meal and got ice cream at this cute little parlor. Oh and we made s’mores because…that’s just what you do when you go camping.
So what did y’all do? A whole lot of nothing! We ate, drank, played UNO, watched movies (Drumline really never gets old!!), went on a little nature walk at Percival’s Island and watched the sunset from the top of the Liberty Monogram. Sunsets are my love language and a unique way God speaks to me so I HIGHLY recommend watching the sun set or rise here should you ever find yourself roaming the streets of Lynchburg, Virginia lol.
Would you do it again? 100%. In a heartbeat. It was a great escape from the hustle and bustle of a big city for a few days. The hosts were amazing and it was such a seamless and simple experience.
But Kia, I have more questions! Leave a comment, text me, call me, e-mail me, slide in my DMs lol I’m open to answering any questions!
