She Shoots. She Scores.
Dear Kia Imani,
As you embark on another year of life, I've decided to write you a letter to remind you how proud I am of you. I feel like I don't tell you that enough.
It amazes me how much has happened over the last year. I've literally watched you manifest opportunities with your words that were mere dreams a few years ago. I've watched you cry over situations that were out of your control and subsequently I've watched you cry over situations that you did a horrible job at controlling. I've watched you form amazing relationships with people and I've watched some relationships just fall by the wayside. And while I've been with you every step of the way, the best part of this entire journey....is watching you grow.
Your patience has been stretched the length of football fields and as a result, it has strengthened your faith in God, yourself and the story that has been created JUST for you. You keep saying 2016 was an amazing year for you and I agree 100%. I just can't wait for you to see what 2017 has to offer! You thought 2016 was good? Girl....
You're 23 today (your mom still can't believe it). This is what we call your "Jordan Year". So this year I challenge you to "Shoot Your Shot". Why? Because that's what Jordan would do. Hell, homie made an entire career out of it. And no, I don't mean slipping & sliding into DMs. I mean, if that's what you want, sure. But I really want you to focus on shooting your shot to help secure the opportunities and experiences you want. Rid yourself of the "But what if they don't reply?" or "What if they say no?" mentality because the truth of the matter is, "What if they do reply? What if they say yes?" Your "just ask!" mindset has gotten you quite far up until this point. Now it's time to take it up a notch.
I pray that in this year you experience more full circle moments (I know how much you LOVE those!), make amazing memories, strengthen your discipline and gain a deeper understanding of who Kia Imani is.
I want more for you in 2017 and I there's no doubt in my mind you want it to. You just gotta go get it.
This is my letter to you.
xoxo
Kia Imani
P.S. - I'm actually surprised at how long it took you to write this considering the fact that you talk to yourself all day long but...I digress.
